Life Skills Training

Building Skills for Future Endeavors

Community Link’s Life Skills program also known as Developmental Training is a comprehensive program spanning three main locations and multiple counties. The program offers individualized services that are provided in a classroom or group setting, by qualified, trained staff as well as through community engagement, including volunteers who offer specialty services.

Participants have the opportunity to work one on one with staff and to also participate in group activities which include community inclusion, art therapy, exercise, music and movement, reading, sensory, cooking, and spa treatments at Breese West and Red Hat Ladies, Sports Club, Birthday Club, Gardening Club and Quilting Club at Fairview Heights Metro. In addition, the Metro location provides pet therapy through Ava, a certified service dog specially trained for that site.

Included in Life Skills is also the opportunity to develop work skills and work behaviors through various contractual work activities at the Breese East and Fairview Heights Metro locations.

To ensure the safety and well being of program participants, a registered nurse is on site at each location. Direct care staff providing services is certified in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Crisis Prevention Institute techniques (CPI). Staff development opportunities are available and encouraged.
