2013 CL Buddy Walk Success

Community Link held their 7th annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, April 27th at Carlyle Lake. With over 400 registered walkers, the rainy weather was not enough to keep people from walking for a great cause! This event, which helps raise awareness for people with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities, brought in nearly $16,000 in gross proceeds. The top fundraising team again this year was Team Torino – Strides for Steve Timmermann, raising over $3,000. Thank you to all who came out to enjoy this special day.

A special thank you goes out to this year’s Buddy Walk sponsors. The Gold sponsor was Foppe Insurance Agency. Silver sponsors included Henken Storage, First County Banks, and Rooter’s Asphalt. Thank you to the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, Clinton County Parrot Head Club, First Bank employees, Mater Dei Track Team, and McKendree University Track Team for the tremendous help the day of the event. Other donors who made the day possible include Excel Bottling, Hardees, Carlyle IGA, Dynamic Vending, Taylor Made Signs, Peek/Huelsmann Rentals, and Diann White.

Community Link, a non-profit organization and proud United Way member agency, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities in our community. The mission of Community Link is to help people with developmental disabilities, and other difficulties, achieve learning breakthroughs, find a job, live in a home of their own, and make friends.

CL Fairview Heights Metro Celebrates

Community Link Fairview Heights Metro site celebrated their 4th anniversary on Friday, July 13, 2012. Program participants and staff enjoyed a day filled with numerous festivities that included a visit from Koozie the cat, miniature horses owned by Sheri & Gary Bement, pig racing, a spa day for the ladies, a duck pond, water balloon tosses, hula hoop contests, and dancing. It was a marvelous day with laughter, friendship, sharing, and memories.

CL Celebrates 40 Years

40th Anniversary Gala ChoirCommunity Link hosted a Gala 40th anniversary celebration at Hidden Lake Winery on Sunday, May 20th. Over 350 guests attended the event. They enjoyed a buffet dinner, music provided by a jazz trio, a video of the organization’s past history and a special performance from a choir comprised of program participants. The evening included a “spotlight recognition” of several categories of honorees. Melba Hodapp’s family and Simon Kampwerth were recognized as Founders and Board Members. Steve Schomaker and Richard Kuiken were recognized as Advocates; Mel Deien and the Clinton County Parrot Head Club were recognized as Volunteers; Jim’s Formal Wear in Trenton and Cooper B-Line in Highland were recognized as Employers; Greg & Jan Wilburn of Kohnen Concrete and the Special Needs Foundation for Community Link were recognized as Donors. Executive Director John Huelskamp stated that these individuals and organizations were honored as representatives of the categories spotlighted, but there were many others throughout the years who contributed to the success of the agency. John Sedivy was also recognized for the 36 years he served as Executive Director. John Huelskamp noted that the celebration will continue this year as other events have been planned for all the program participants and staff to enjoy.

Buddy Walk - Team TorinoThe top fundraising team for the second year in a row was Team Torino – Strides for Steve Timmermann raising over $4,410.

Community Link held their 6th Annual Buddy Walk Saturday, April 21st at Carlyle Lake. With over 500 people registered for the Buddy Walk, 300 more than last year, the cold weather was not enough to scare people away from walking for a great cause! Community Link’s Buddy Walk brought in over $19,000 in gross proceeds, which is $10,000 more than last year!!

BW Bake Sale

Valentines-Day-BW-Bake-Sale.jpg“Team BEST” raised $350 for the Buddy Walk today during their first bake sale. “Team BEST” stands for “Breese East Staff Team” and was organized by Donna Fitzgerald, RN/Program Manager at the East building. A big thank you to all who purchased and helped out in making this a huge success! Just from today, "Team BEST" raised more money than they had from all last year’s achievements. Remember to mark your calendar for Saturday, April 21st, for the annual Buddy Walk at Carlyle Lake. Watch for more information to come.

CCPHC Spring Phling

ccphc.jpgThe Clinton County Parrot Head Club is hosting their 5th Annual Spring Phling on February 25, 2012 at Bretz Wildlife Lodge & Winery in Carlyle, IL. Tickets are $25 each, a chicken and beer dance is provided, which includes draft beer, soda and chicken; you may bring your own snacks. A silent auction will be held, along with raffles and prizes. The doors open at 6:45 PM, and the food will be served at 8:00 PM.
